Artist In Residence with White Goose Farm-Part 1.
July 20, 2024I am excited and honoured to share that I am now ‘Artist In Residence’ for White Goose Flower Farm. It is a beautiful garden, here in Leicestershire, surrounded by rolling hills, mixed woodland and tiny lanes.
Hidden behind an old wooden door, beholds an enchanting walled garden filled with flowers. Established by Fleur and her partner Mark, White Goose Farm is set in the village of ‘Little Dalby’. They opened the flower farm in April 2024 and together with the help of ‘Het’- Henrietta, they are growing British flowers sustainably in harmony with nature. It’s such a wholesome place, full of enthusiasm and life- chickens, geese and dogs, birds singing, insects buzzing, Terry the peacock and lots of beautiful flowers of course!
Historically, the garden was once an important feature of Little Dalby Hall, both for fruit, vegetable and flower production and as a pleasure garden - guests would have been invited to take a stroll around it, admire it’s symmetry and impressive south wall of elegant glasshouses.
In 1945 after use a military hospital, the hall fell into disrepair and both wings were demolished, leaving only the square chest of the once magnificent building. The walled garden also fell into disuse, the glass houses crumbled, the wells were filled and weeds gained a stronghold in a growing space which in its heyday would have employed approximately sixteen gardeners. After many years, the area is now returning to its horticultural roots, but this time with just with two pairs of hands!
I am going to be creating cards and art, inspired by the seasonality of their beautiful flowers. If you live in the Leicestershire region, you will be able to purchase my cards on their website (here: www.whitegooseflowers.com ) to collect, or just pick one up directly from the potting shed, and can have one included in your bouquet delivery.
I have already begun sketching and painting, soaking up the atmosphere of summer here…
I will be documenting my journey with White Goose Farm, here on my blog and in my newsletter (sign-up on is my website,) when I have more to share, so please do follow along. We have some exciting plans in the pipeline, but for now here are a few more photographs to do the talking #whitegooseflowers …
